Saf-T-Cord

The Safe - T - Cord is one of the latest innovations in child safety. The Saf-T-Cord is a system to help prevent accidents from ever happening.  Due to the overwhelming number of accidents and fatalities involving mini blind cords, the CPSC has recently ordered a recall of 500 million mini blinds. Some safety devices currently on the market do not address all of the issues concerning child safety. Others are complicated, difficult to install, damage your windows and trim, to say nothing about being unsightly. The Saf-T-Cord addresses all these issues but most of all, child safety.

This simple, inexpensive device stores the excess cord supplied with all mini blinds. When properly installed, all the excess cord is wound and stored onto the cord reel. The cord reel comes with a convenient hanger that attaches high above the reach of a curious toddler by the means of a double sided foam tape. The hanger attaches in seconds without the need for tools, yet an integral part of this safety system. Finally the bead is supplied to prevent the slack from between the slats on the inner cord.

For Pennies, this priceless piece of mind, could mean the difference between a safe household and a tragic accident.

The Saf-T-Cord is sleek in design and is molded with a high density, clear polymer to blend in with existing colors and decor. The revolutionary design is compact and convenient consisting of 4 components or just two pieces. The  Saf-T-Cord comes with the hanger and bead molded as one piece. A simple twist of the wrist, and you are ready to install this integral safety device.

First we will start with the bead. The bead is attached one or two inches from the header of the mini blind. The bead by itself, only addresses 12% of the fatalities to young children. It does not however, address 88% of the fatalities, the root of the problem, the cord itself. This is where the Saf-T-Cord comes in. All excess cord is wound such that when the blind is fully lowered, the cord is out of reach. But what do you do when the blind is in it’s open position? This is where the hanger plays a vital role in keeping your child safe. Simple attach the double sided tape to the back of the hanger and firmly attach to an area high up inside the window jamb.

Now you can simply hang the Cord Reel along with it’s excess cord, out of reach preventing an unsafe condition.

The main component of the Saf-T-Cord is the actual Reel itself.  First and foremost, the Saf-T-Cord is a child safety device, that when used properly can help prevent child fatalities due to strangulation.  This simple device is also easy to install.  No tools of any kind are needed.  Installation is simples and takes only a minute.  The Saf-T-Cord is also made out of a high density clear polymer that is all but invisible.  It blends in with any color and decor.

This Cord Hanger does exactly what it's called, it hangs the cord.  After the mini blind cord is wound onto the Reel, the Reel is hung onto the Cord Hanger.  Some mini blind safety devices require mounting screws or bolts into the window seal or trim.  Our Cord Hanger saves time and money.  A piece of double sided foam tape is included with each Mini Blind Cord Reel.  This tape attaches to the back of the hanger, and then attaches high up, inside the jamb.  Installation takes only seconds.  Other devices require you to damage your window seal or woodwork, by inserting screws or bolts.  This means drills, and other tools are require for their installation.  These fasteners also damage the window seals and woodwork, that are apparent to see and costly to fix if later removed.  The Cord Hanger is also made out of a clear polymer, so after installed it is almost invisible to see.

The final component of the Saf-T-Cord is the Cord Stop.  Since 1991 approximately 15 cases of child strangulation, due inner cords of mini blinds, have been reported.  When the blind is lowered, but not locked into place, a small amount of slack is present in the inner cord.  It has been reported that infants have been able to pull this loose cord, and put it around their necks.

The cord stop is placed on the lift cord about two inches from the top of the blinds.  When put on correctly this prevents the blinds from having any potential slack, thus preventing this kind of strangulation.  Although this cord stop is a good idea, it does not address the root of the problem, the cord itself!

Since 1991 about 110 cases of child strangulation have occurred due to lift  cords on mini blinds, and window coverings.  The cord stop only address about 12% of the accidents that have occurred due to strangulation.  When used correctly the Mini Blind Cord Reel, along with the Cord Stop and Hanger, addresses the other 88% of the accidents.
